3 DAYS IN EDINBURGH

Hi everyone!

For the last few days of 2018, my boyfriend and I hopped over to Edinburgh for a little city break. It was the perfect place to go at this time of year and so I thought I would write a blog post to share all of the best bits with you.... hope that you enjoy.

Activities:

Old Town

  • Wondered around the beautiful old town, including the Royal Mile

Winter Wonderland

  • Went to Edinburgh Winter Wonderland, which in my opinion was better than the London one - much better layout and definitely was much prettier!

Arthur's Seat

  • Climbed to the top of Arthur's Seat. Definitely much more difficult than I thought it was going to be (I wore a denim skirt and Vans, whilst everyone else around was in trainers and leggings haha oops), but I was soooo glad to make it to the top for the beautiful view.

National Musem of Scotland

  • Visited the National Museum of Scotland, which is free, but has so much in it. I felt like we barely scratched the surface, but it had so much about Scottish history as well as natural history, science and technology and architecture. We didn't see all of it as we ran out of time, so would definitely go back.

Haunted Vaults Tour

  • Went on a 'haunted' vaults tour. We managed to get a Groupon code for the 'Old Reekie' tour so it was only £6 each, which I thought was a bargain. We were taught about the history of the vaults, and how poorer people of Edinburgh would live there to try and avoid being put in prison. We then went into the vaults and were told about the ghost and paranormal activity stories that have happened down there. I don't believe in ghosts but it was really freaky!

Edinburgh Castle

  • Visited Edinburgh castle. This was the most pricey activity at £18.50, but was definitely worth it. It is such a huge structure with some of the most amazing architecture, as well as so much history. We saw the old cannons that are still there, looked around the prison where hundreds of prisoners of war were kept, as well as seeing the Scottish Crown Jewels and the Royal Apartments. Plus, the views from here were absolutely incredible!

Eating and Drinking

  • Yummy eggs and avocado brunch at Loudon's. Catered really well for veggies, vegans and gluten-free, so there was something for everyone! Lovely trendy but cosy atmosphere too.

  • Lunch at Burrito N Shake. This place does halal meat as well as great veggie options. I had a vegetable burrito and vegetable nachos and they were soooo delicious.
  • Dinner at Biblos. Great little restaurant/ bar near the centre for cheap but yummy food. They did student deals. I got tortellini pasta with a creamy tomato sauce with olives and garlic bread, sharing a bottle of wine with Tom.
  • 10 to 10 Indian Deli. Probably the best curry I have ever had. This little deli is tucked away, you may not even notice it if you walk past, however, I am so glad that we found it. It is decorated beautifully with Indian tapestries, wall hangings and pillows everywhere so that the walls are covered and it feels really cosy. I had a creamy chickpea curry in a wrap with cous cous and a side sald - only £4.50!! If you eat one place in Edingburgh, I would say it definitely has to be here.

  • OZ Bar. For you students out there, Oz bar was great. They did student deals on drinks, making it one of the cheapest bars that we could find in Edinburgh. An Australian theme bar that is a bit rough around the edges, but has a great atmosphere and is in a really central location.
  • Doughnuts and Mulled cider at Edinburgh winter wonderland. If you happen to be there at Christmas, definitely check out some of the food in Winter Wonderland. SO much street food for whatever your taste is. We opted for warm doughnuts with cinnamon and had a lovely plum mulled cider which was absolutely delicious.
So there is my round up of Edinburgh! I hope that you enjoyed reading it. Have you been to Edinburgh? Where should be next on my travel bucket list?

Lots of love,

Yasmin xxxx
